The Higher Committee for the People’s Assembly Elections issued a decision assigning its members to directly supervise the electoral process in various Syrian provinces.

The decision, published on September 6, 2025, assigned committee members to oversee the electoral process in the following provinces: Aleppo, Rural Damascus, Damascus, Homs, Hama, Latakia, Tartous, Idlib, Deir Ez-zour, Daraa, and Quneitra.

Over the past few days, members of the People’s Assembly election subcommittees in these provinces have taken the legal oath before the Higher Committee, marking the start of their duties in monitoring the electoral process.

Postponement of Elections in Hasaka, Suwayda, and Raqqa

On August 23, the Higher Committee for People's Assembly Elections announced the postponement of the electoral process in the provinces of Suwayda, Hasaka, and Raqqa.

Dr. Nawwar Najma, a member of the Higher Committee and its spokesperson, told SANA that the decision was based on the fact that the electoral process is a matter of sovereignty and must take place within territories fully controlled by the state, including official centers.

Najma explained that the provincial seats will remain reserved until suitable conditions and a safe environment are ensured for holding the elections.

People’s Assembly Elections

The head of the Higher Committee for People's Assembly Elections, Mohammad Taha al-Ahmad, had previously indicated that the timetable for the electoral process, after the signing of the decree on the provisional electoral system, includes a week for selecting subcommittees, followed by 15 days for selecting electoral bodies, then a three-day period for nominations, and an additional week for campaigning and debates, with the elections to be held thereafter.
