Welat TV – Erbil
Maintenance crews uncovered a mass grave containing at least five sets of human remains while repairing a sewage line in Damascus’ al-Qadam neighborhood, authorities confirmed on Monday, September 22, 2025.
According to the Damascus Governorate, civil defense teams, forensic experts from the National Authority for the Missing, and local officials were immediately dispatched to the site to supervise the excavation and recovery process.
Criminal Investigation Department officers have filed an official report, and investigators are working to determine the victims’ identities and the circumstances surrounding their burial.
The discovery adds a grim chapter to al-Qadam’s history, a neighborhood that witnessed intense fighting, forced displacements, and mass arrests during Syria’s years of conflict.
