The General Authority for Land and Maritime Border Crossings in Syria issued a clarification regarding the procedures in place at Syrian border points, particularly concerning the return of citizens to the country.

The authority emphasized that current measures aim to facilitate re-entry and ease the burden on returning citizens. The statement came from Mazen Alloush, Director of Public Relations at the Authority, in response to an appeal made by several freight companies operating between Turkey and Syria, published by Syria TV.

Alloush confirmed that household furniture accompanying voluntary returnees is exempt from customs duties and taxes, and that no additional fees are imposed by the Authority. He noted that some shipping companies engage in illegal practices, such as smuggling new goods within used furniture shipments or charging unjustified fees to returnees—violations the Authority is actively working to curb.

He stressed that customs tariffs are unified and transparent across all border crossings, subject to strict oversight, reaffirming the Authority’s commitment to fair enforcement of regulations and to ensuring a dignified and safe return for citizens.
