The Syrian Presidency’s Media Directorate has announced the appointment of Brigadier General Ziad Fawwaz al-Ayesh as Presidential Envoy to oversee the implementation of the January 29 agreement with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

According to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), the decision was issued on Saturday, February 21, 2026. The mandate aims to advance integration efforts, strengthen the presence of state institutions, remove obstacles, and activate government services provided to citizens.

Who is Ziad Fawaz Al-Ayesh?

Brigadier General Ziad Fawwaz al-Ayesh currently serves as Assistant Minister of Interior for Civil Affairs. He hails from the village of Arja al-Jawwala in the countryside of Qamishlo and was born around 1987.

Al-Ayesh holds a diploma from the Oil Institute in Rmelan, Hasaka province, as well as a bachelor’s degree in Sharia from al-Ouzai University in Lebanon. He also earned a master’s degree in Business Administration from University of Idlib.

During his previous tenure in Idlib, al-Ayesh assumed several administrative and security roles. He worked in the administration of central military camps and was affiliated with Hayat Tahrir al-Sham.

He also served as an administrative official within the General Security apparatus. He later founded and managed the “Barrier Administration” in Idlib before being appointed Director of Civil Affairs at the Ministry of Interior under the Salvation Government in Idlib.

His current appointment comes as part of official arrangements to follow up on the implementation of the January 29 agreement signed between the SDF and the Syrian government, and to advance the execution of its provisions.
