Syria's General Authority for Border Crossings and Customs has confirmed that the al-Bukamal border crossing with Iraq is witnessing active and regular movement of travelers entering and leaving Syria.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, the authority said the steady flow of passengers comes amid organizational measures aimed at facilitating travel and accelerating the completion of administrative procedures.

The authority noted that approximately 60,000 travelers have crossed through the border post since the beginning of 2026, including both arrivals and departures. It added that nearly 2,000 individuals have benefited from the voluntary return program, underscoring the crossing's importance as a key gateway connecting movement between Syria and Iraq.

The authority further affirmed its continued efforts to enhance services at border crossings by simplifying administrative procedures and improving the readiness of operational staff, with the aim of improving the travel experience and strengthening safety and efficiency standards.

It added that these measures also contribute to supporting transportation and trade exchanges between the two countries, in line with the growing volume of movement through border crossings.
