Masrour Barzani Inaugurates New Tourism Project, "The Hanging Gardens of Babylon," in Erbil

Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, Masrour Barzani, on Tuesday inaugurated the Hanging Gardens of Babylon park in the Ankawa district of Erbil Governorate as part of one of the Kurdistan Region’s most prominent modern urban and environmental development projects.

The park has been built on an area of approximately 59,000 square meters according to modern architectural designs, with the aim of providing a green public space and enhancing the city’s environmental, tourism, and public health sectors.

During the inauguration ceremony, Masrour Barzani reaffirmed the Kurdistan Regional Government’s commitment to continuing construction and development projects, particularly environmentally focused initiatives that contribute to improving quality of life and mitigating the effects of climate change.

Park Features

The park includes three main entrances linking the Ankawa area with the Erbil Avenue project, in addition to a modern spiral bridge rising seven meters above ground level and offering visitors a panoramic view of the surrounding area. It also features an underground pedestrian passage designed to regulate foot traffic and enhance safety standards.

One of the project's most notable landmarks is a 63-meter flagpole, the tallest in Iraq, surrounded by more than 50 Kurdistan Region flags.

The park also contains a dedicated padel court aimed at meeting the recreational needs of young people and encouraging sports activities.

The park is expected to become a new recreational and tourist destination in Erbil, as well as a social hub that promotes community interaction while adding a modern green space to the city's urban landscape.
