The Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Syrian Arab Republic has welcomed the formation of the Syrian People's Assembly and the convening of its inaugural session, describing it as an important milestone at this stage, while expressing hope for the adoption of legislation related to human rights.

In a post published on the social media platform X on Thursday, July 23, 2026, the Commission stated: "We look forward to cooperating with the Assembly in its efforts to fulfill the aspirations of the Syrian people and to adopt important legislation to strengthen human rights, including a Transitional Justice Law."

The Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Syrian Arab Republic was established by the United Nations Human Rights Council on August 22, 2011, to investigate human rights violations committed during the years of the Syrian uprising under the former regime.
