Baniyas Port Strengthens Maritime Activity, Handling 108 Tankers and Exporting Two Million Tons of Iraqi Oil

Syria’s Baniyas Port in Tartous Province has recorded significant activity since the beginning of this year, receiving 108 tankers carrying around 3.23 million tons of various petroleum products, in addition to exporting more than two million tons of Iraqi crude oil transported through Syrian territory under a transit arrangement.

According to a statement issued by Syria’s General Authority for Border Crossings and Customs on Friday, August 7, 2026, the port handled the transit export of Iraqi oil through 30 tankers carrying fuel oil and petroleum distillates as part of transportation and trade activity linked to the energy sector.

19 Vessels Undergo Maintenance and Repairs

In terms of maritime services, the port received 19 vessels for various maintenance and repair operations, including routine servicing, structural and mechanical repairs, engine and technical equipment maintenance, and deck equipment work.

The port’s workshops also carried out specialized technical modifications on some vessels to enable them to transport livestock. The authority said Baniyas Port’s technical workshops continue to carry out maintenance and conversion works using experienced Syrian personnel specializing in ship repair and outfitting, in accordance with approved technical plans and standards. It added that these efforts have strengthened the port’s capacity to receive additional vessels seeking maintenance and maritime services.

The authority noted that Baniyas Port continues to play an important role in supporting the energy sector and maritime transport, alongside ongoing efforts to improve its operational readiness and enhance the oil and maritime services provided to tankers and vessels.
