Jordan Hosts Military Meeting to Strengthen Border Security and Regional Coordination with Kurdistan Region Participation

Jordanian capital Amman hosted a high-level military meeting on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, attended by military and security officials from the Kurdistan Region, Jordan, Syria, and Iraq, to discuss border security and strengthen joint coordination in addressing regional challenges and threats.

The Jordanian Armed Forces said in a statement that the meeting was held as part of efforts to reaffirm continued relations among the participating parties and to develop and strengthen frameworks for military cooperation and coordination amid rapidly evolving security challenges in the region in a way that serves common interests and supports regional security and stability.

The meeting, held in Amman, was attended by the Minister of Peshmerga Affairs in the Kurdistan Regional Government, the Chairman of the Jordanian Joint Chiefs of Staff, the Chief of the General Staff of the Syrian Army and Armed Forces, and the Chief of Staff of the Iraqi Army.

The participants discussed a number of issues of common concern, particularly regional and border security, as well as ways to enhance coordination in confronting cross-border threats and risks.

They stressed the importance of maintaining communication and exchanging information and expertise to strengthen their collective ability to respond efficiently and effectively to various challenges, emphasizing that regional developments require greater coordination and closer cooperation.

The statement noted that protecting borders and countering threats require sustained joint efforts to strengthen the ability of countries in the region to safeguard their security and sovereignty and maintain stability. It also stressed the importance of expanding areas of military and security cooperation and raising the level of preparedness to address current and future challenges.
