Arab Condemnation Follows Netanyahu’s Visit to Syria’s Mount Hermon

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s field visit, accompanied by Defense Minister Israel Katz, to the Mount Hermon area inside Syrian territory has drawn Arab condemnation, amid warnings over the repercussions of military escalation and its impact on regional security and stability.
Syria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates condemned what it described as an “illegal entry” in a statement issued on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, saying the Israeli move constituted a “provocative step and a blatant violation of Syria’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and international law.”
Damascus held Israel fully responsible for its continued incursions and attacks, saying they threaten security and stability in the region.
Jordan and Kuwait also condemned the visit, describing it as a “flagrant violation of Syria’s sovereignty” and an unacceptable escalation that contravenes international charters and relevant UN Security Council resolutions.
Amman and Kuwait called on the UN Security Council to assume its responsibilities and ensure compliance with relevant international resolutions.
Netanyahu appeared in a video released on Wednesday from the summit of Mount Hermon, speaking about Israeli forces’ control of the area extending from Mount Hermon to the Yarmouk River. He said Israel would not allow what he described as a “terrorist army” to establish a presence along its border.
Netanyahu also addressed regional developments, saying the “end of the regime in Iran” was near, in remarks that came amid escalating security and military tensions across the region. The visit comes as Israeli military activity inside southern Syria remains a source of international concern.
A UN Commission of Inquiry recently warned that sustained Israeli ground operations, raids, and the establishment of military infrastructure inside Syrian territory could amount to violations of international law and have affected civilians in the area.
