The Syrian Ministry of Education and Teaching announced the official approval of 938 schools to teach the Kurdish language as a national language across four Syrian provinces, as part of the implementation of Presidential Decree No. 13 concerning the Kurdish language.
The ministry said through its official accounts on Thursday, September 10, 2026, that the approved schools are distributed among 608 schools in Hasaka province, 308 schools in Aleppo province, 17 schools in Damascus province, and five schools in Hama province.
The measure comes as part of the implementation of Decree No. 13 of 2026, concerning the inclusion of the Kurdish language in the official educational curriculum.
Three weekly classes have been allocated for teaching the subject, while emphasizing that learning Kurdish will be optional for students, with the aim of facilitating implementation of the decision during the transitional phase.
In a related development, the ministry issued a decision on Wednesday allowing students who obtained basic education certificates previously issued by the Autonomous Administration to enroll in the first year of general secondary education in Syrian schools, provided they have achieved an average of at least 55 percent, in accordance with the approved admission and registration criteria.
The decision also allows students holding previously issued and duly certified educational documents from the Autonomous Administration to transfer and directly enroll in various transitional grades, ensuring continuity of their educational progression without obstacles.
The Ministry of Education stressed that these decisions aim to facilitate the enrollment of all students in the official education system and rely on certified educational documents to determine the appropriate grade for each student, thereby ensuring continuity of their education.
